MR examination can be performed by informing patients who have a metallic prosthesis for 2 months or longer in the parts of their body that are outside the examination area. Sometimes there may be side effects such as heating or burning. When the slightest discomfort is felt during the examination, the examination is terminated immediately and the patient is removed from the MR room.
However, patients with a metallic foreign body in the eye are not included in the MRI examination in any way.
It’s a tough question to be able to say a simple yes or no. MRI is considered a reliable examination method. However, there is no definite information about how safe it is for pregnant and fetus. The first trimester of pregnancy is usually not practiced. Unless there is a very strong medical indication, it is generally not performed in pregnant women (First of all, other examination methods are tried). If there is a very strong medical indication, your doctor and radiologist should decide together whether MR is the best and only examination method. If it is decided that it is the best and only examination method for the diagnosis of your disease, MR examination will be performed (using the shortest times).
As a general rule, MR examination is performed to confirm the anomaly, only when a significant or life-threatening disease is suspected in the mother and a congenital anomaly is considered in the baby.
